The Armenian ecclesiastical choir performing liturgy was created in 1990. Since the single active Armenian Apostolic Church in Belgium was consecrated in 1990, the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Brussels has been serving as the Armenian community headquarters. Nowadays, the Armenian ecclesiastical choir is conducted and run by Ms. Galstyan Zvart, who besides the choir management plays organ and acts as a professional vocalist performing solo.

The choir performed many times in the famous concert halls and churches – in Palais de BOZAR, in Sint-Carolus Borromeuskerk (St. Charles Borromeo Church) in Antwerp, at various festivals in Église des Minimes, Saint Catherine’s Church and Chapel for Europe in Brussels, at the festival in Lille and a lot of other prominent concert venues and sacred places.

Conductor, organist and mezzo-soprano of the Armenian liturgical church choir Galstyan Zvart had post-graduate studies at the Yerevan State Conservatory and got a PhD degree. She proved by her professionalism the right to run the choir, to be its leading singer and the worthy successor of the famous Harutyun Lulega.

Their superior performance quality, professionalism, excellence and astonishing beauty of chants make this choir unique in its kind. They sing the liturgy in the Armenian Apostolic church every Sunday, therefore, the choir is always in excellent condition. It is often invited to perform at various events. With their innovative performances of sacred music, extensive repertoire comprising Komitas, Ekmalyan and other famous composers, they always welcome all invitations and keep on top among musical innovative trends in sacred music in Belgium, Russia, and in the Armenian musical culture.

Liturgies actually have their own specific features. Sacred music is integral to the liturgical life of the Church. Sacred music is characterized by beauty and sincerity of form. It flows from and is united to the Liturgical texts and actions. It is holy, set apart, and expressive of the spirit of communal prayer. It engages the mind, body, and soul to enter into the mysteries of our faith. Whether an ancient chant or a modern sacred composition, it conveys the truth of the eternal.
