#StopPushbacks with @dialogueplatform
This exhibition draws the attention of the Pushback’s at the Turkish/Greek border.
During the exhibition, visitors take a walk past the exhibited works of art. These works give an impression of the tough journey refugees have made.
Anne Hofstede’s animations are shown on 3 screens. Together, the screens form a panoramic image showing parts of the victims’ testimonies. The videos show the personal stories by using perishable materials. Fragile paper that almost falls apart. Dark charcoal drawings that fade yet always leave an imprint, just like all the memories the refugees will carry with them.
The walk then leads to a paper sculpture. The sculpture consists of layers of photo prints of rock walls. As you walk around it, voices of refugees left behind in the « landscape » can be heard in a soft tone. With this object, Annegien Haselager symbolizes a journey that starts over and over again. The height of the rock wall makes it difficult to look ahead, the future is uncertain.
The walk ends at a table project by Nell Berger. Visitors are invited to engage in conversation about border violence and human rights violations. For this, you can take a seat at the table. A richly endowed table, but to what extent do we really want to share and allow strangers to eat with us?
There is a tablecloth and napkins where visitors can leave messages with needle and thread. The messages thus become part of the exhibition. Embroidery gives you the peace and space to express your feelings.
