The film is a fictionalized encounter between German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who became Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, and Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio.
Bergoglio was elected after Benedict’s resignation in 2013, becoming the current Pope Francis.
